The average price of proofreading is $45 an hour.
Proofreading and copy editing is $50 an hour.
Grammar and style coaching from $60 an hour.
Students hourly rate dependent on level of coaching and proofreading required.
The per hour rate can vary depending on the level of proofing and editing the writer has achieved before submitting the work. For short, less complex texts proofed and edited using Microsoft Word before submission, the less time it will take to proofread.
For those who need a general rule of thumb, an A4 page which has 2.5 cm margins and is typed in 12 point font with standard spacing elements will be approximately 500 words when typed single spaced.
On average, proofreaders can work through about 800 to 1,000 words for more complex and not previously proofed texts and/or 2,500 words per hour for already well-proofed documents. Remember, due to numerous variables, it can take anywhere from 15–60 minutes to proofread 1,000 words
Terms and conditions
If able, In Other Words will quote for services. A sample of the text or document may be required before quoting.
Fot texts over 10,000 words a deposit will be due in the agreed time before the start of the service required.
For your privacy, no documents will be retained by In Other Words after full payment is received, unless required and with the author’s permission.
All final payments are to be made within 14 days of the final invoice.
For clients in Aotearoa/New Zealand, payment can be made by online banking. For overseas clients payment can be made by bank transfer.
The start and finish dates will be agreed by both parties.
In Other Words will not be obliged to complete the services or obligations under a quote if it is not able to due to an adverse event beyond its reasonable control.
